You may use this list to find RPB members in Illinois who breed their animals responsibly and provide proper nutrition and accommodation for their dogs. Before choosing a breeder, please familiarize yourself with the needs and traits of your chosen breed, as well as the requirements for the proper care of the animal.
Buying your dog or puppy from a breeder registered with RPB will give you peace of mind that you’re buying from an ethical breeder who cares for their animals properly.

To provide the finest standard of care for their pets, RPB members in Illinois must follow our Code of Ethics. Breeders in the state of Illinois must meet the following requirements:
In compliance with the Illinois Animal Welfare Act, a “dog breeder” or “cat breeder” is classified as “a person who sells, offers to sell, exchanges or offers for adoption with or without charge dogs/cats that he has produced and raised.” According to the same document, “a person who owns, has possession of, or harbours 5 or less females capable of reproduction shall not be considered a dog/cat breeder.”
If in the state of Illinois you are classed as a “breeder,” you will be required to apply for a license from the Illinois Department of Agriculture. This license expires on the 30th of June annually and must be obtained prior to becoming a member of RPB.

All of your breeding animals are required to be up to date with their vaccinations (canine and feline vaccinations and rabies vaccinations) and be registered with your county/council as required.
